Karen Brown, an Albury artist, discussed her impressive range of works on paper at the June 'First Monday' session at the Benalla Pop Up Gallery.. Karen is a super realist specialising in natural objects such as leaf litter, sea shells, animals and works mostly in coloured pencils.
Eucalyptus leaves are some of her favourite motifs. She has always drawn since childhood, but over the last ten years has established a professional practice that has included further study, exhibitions and organizing drawing workshops.
In workshops Karen likes to teach techniques that everyone can use to improve their drawing. Her advice is practical: you must put in the time to improve and do something everyday connected with your drawing. Don’t be afraid to draw what you love even if its not in the Art Mainstream. Don’t be afraid to show your work to others: some will like it; others may not.
Karen is offering two drawing workshops in August at the Benalla Pop Up Gallery in Bridge Street. Bookings at the Gallery are open for people of all abilities.
The next Art Appreciation gathering will be Monday 6th July at 10am when, in the lead up to her Gallery shop exhibition A Hint of Japonisme, Lurg-based artist, Pauline Fraser will share how a recent trip to Japan has influenced her recent work. Pauline will also speak about her diverse practice that includes, sculpture, ceramics, drawing, public art and printmaking.
