Perhaps Susie's most well known work of art is an installation called Soap Opera. This is simply where a variety of nearly finished cakes of soap have been tacked onto a wall in a way that suddenly transforms into an Art Piece.
Susie explained that her main motivation is to have fun. She creates art pieces that retain remnant memories, experiences and new observations from time spent travelling. She sometimes creates art works spontaneously from natural objects which are on hand. Temporary circles made of natural environmental ingredients are her speciality.
Susie showed photos of her Studio where she has already collected many mundane man made objects which she will use in future projects.
Susie's lecture was well received by those in attendance.
Join us on Monday 5 October from 10 to 11.30am when, as part of the Seniors Festival program, October's First Monday will feature a conversation with emerging artist Nick Baylart, followed by morning tea in the Gallery. Nick's exhibition, Speedscapes, captures the way the wide flat plains of north central Victoria are experienced at speed: fast glimpses of sprawling agricultural country seen most often by road or rail, across long vistas and between roadside trees.
Registration essential: To secure your place visit the Gallery, call on 03 5760 2619, or email [email protected]
