The weather didn’t always play along, but that didn’t stop our enthusiastic U3A members from making the most of the four‑week croquet program. Congratulations to everyone who attended some or all of the sessions—you embraced the challenge with great spirit.

Across the program, participants learned the essential mallet skills of croqueting, positioning and hoop running, along with clever tactics to outwit an opponent. It was terrific to see everyone’s confidence grow, with several players showing real promise for future play.

A heartfelt thankyou to the Benalla Croquet Club tutors—Steve, Geoff, Irene, Lyn and Maureen—for their well‑organised, friendly and patient instruction. We are also grateful to the club members who provided the scrumptious morning teas that kept everyone smiling.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting not only the enjoyment of the sessions but also the welcoming atmosphere and the supportive teaching style of the club’s volunteers.
For those who’ve caught the croquet bug—or would simply like to keep enjoying the game—players are warmly invited to continue joining the club on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, with an 8:15am arrival for an 8:30am start.

Returning in 2026 - 'Come & Learn Croquet' Short Course

22/11/2025

Starting on February 24 2026 for 4-weeks, golf croquet is a stellar choice for seniors. It's low impact so it's easy on the joints, but still involves enough movement to keep you active. It allows for social interaction - playing in a group can help foster friendships and stave off loneliness. The strategic nature of the game keeps your brain sharp, honing focus and mental agility. Best of all, spending time outdoors boosts mood and general well-being. It's the perfect mix of exercise, mental stimulation, and social interaction.

Over four weeks participants will learn:
  • The basic mallet skills of croqueting, positioning and hoop running.
  • The outline of the croquet court and direction of play.
  • Some basic rules of Golf Croquet.
  • Tactics involved to select the most appropriate shot to hoop or stymie opponents.

Morning tea will be provided after each session.

No cost involved.

Convenor:  Debbie Hazell 0407 506 328
Time and Place:  Commencing Tuesday 24 February for 4 weeks from 9 to 11 am at the Benalla Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Ackerly Avenue.

"The inaugural 'Come and Try Croquet' short course was a hit!"

The inaugural Come and Try Croquet short course was a hit!

In sunny Autumn weather participants learnt the basic mallet skills of roqueting, positioning and hoop running and the tactics involved to select the most appropriate shot to win a hoop.

Players enjoyed the low impact outdoor exercise. Forward thinking and strategy kept the mind very active. The friendly, inclusive and social aspects of the sport of croquet both on and off the courts were appreciated.

Many thanks to the Benalla Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club for providing the venue and Benalla Croquet Club members for providing the instruction and lovely morning teas.
